Calder Green Reserve is owned by Forest & Bird, and managed by branch members, local rangers, and the community. The aim is to restore the indigenous flora and fauna to this area and create a habitat for birds and other native species. It is 1.56 hectares, named after a campaigner for the Estuary Bernie Calder, and the donor, Mrs F Green.
Currently underway in the Reserve is a lizard sanctuary programme. This is a community partnership project with the CCC Parks Unit. The aim is to provide a restored habitat with plants being selected for shelter and food source for skinks.
Calder Green Reserve is a saltmarsh and riparian area, on the lower reaches of the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River.
Access to the reserve is along the track starting at the entrance to the Ferrymead Golf Club.
